Incense is a combination of aromatic substances, such as resins and oils, that produce a pleasing fragrance or scent when burnt.
Incense may come in different forms but here at In Sense we sell direct burning incense in the form of incense sticks. The incense stick must initially be lit until a small flame glows, and then gently blown out. The incense will burn slowly, generally for 40-45 minutes, releasing its beautiful fragrance as it burns.
How many sticks of incense are in a pack?
We sell our incense in packets of 20g. Because all of our incense is handmade, each incense stick will vary slightly in weight.
Our Classic range of incense will include c.18-20 sticks per 20g.
Our Deluxe range, with a higher quantity of resins and essential oils and therefore slightly higher weight per stick, will include c.16-18 sticks per 20g.
How long do your incense sticks burn for?
Each incense stick is approximately 20cm in length and will burn for 40-45 minutes.

Our incense sticks are handmade in a village workshop in India - small scale, not mass-produced in factories. Our production process creates no byproducts and no safety hazards for employees.
We work with a traditional incense producer committed to ethical work practices and employee welfare. It is important to us to help preserve the local community crafts of old India and support a small local economy.

How do I burn incense? How do I light an incense stick?
Simply light the tip of the incense stick until a small flame is established. Allow it to burn for a few seconds to ensure it is properly lit, then gently blow it out. Your incense stick should glow red and a gentle wisp of smoke should be seen.
Place your incense stick in a fire-proof holder in a safe location away from children and pets and away from all flammable materials. Do not burn incense unattended.
Are incense sticks bad for me? Is your incense safe to use?
Our incense is made from 100% natural ingredients making it chemical and synthetic-free, but like anything else that emits smoke, incense smoke may be inhaled when using it. If you suffer from a respiratory or other illness or you are pregnant, you should seek professional advice before using incense.
It is important to ensure that you always burn incense safely, in a well-ventilated area.
If you experience any health problems, please seek professional advice.
Can incense cause fire?
As with all flammable items, you should burn incense safely to reduce the risk of fire.
Place your lit incense stick in a fire-proof holder in a safe, stable, heat-proof location.
Keep lit incense away from all flammable materials such as curtains, lampshades, or clothing
Ensure that ash falls onto a fire-proof surface, and cannot fall onto a flammable surface such as carpet.
Burn incense in a well-ventilated area but away from windows or drafty areas.
Keep both unlit and burning incense out of reach of children and pets.
If you wish to extinguish a partially burnt incense stick, simply dip the glowing tip in water.
Do not burn incense unattended.
Will incense set off my fire alarm?
Under normal circumstances, incense will not trigger your smoke detector / fire alarm because it will not produce enough smoke to do so. Try to keep your incense burning as far away from your smoke alarms as possible, to keep the odds of triggering an alarm as low as possible.
Are incense sticks harmful to animals?
Our incense is made from 100% natural ingredients making it chemical and synthetic-free, but like anything else, dogs and other animals may occasionally be sensitive to the scent and smoke emitted from incense sticks. Please take this into consideration when enjoying your incense sticks.
You should keep lit and unlit incense away from children and pets. Enjoy your incense sticks in a well-ventilated area to keep your pets safe.
Will incense kill my plants?
At In Sense, our incense sticks are made from 100% natural ingredients making them chemical and synthetic-free, non-toxic, and vegan. Because of this, the incense ash can be added to your plants to act as a great fertilizer.
Burning incense will emit a small amount of smoke. The smoke contains carbon dioxide which is beneficial to plants, since it is used in photosynthesis, but the particles present may coat the leaves of your plants and hinder the absorption of light. You can reduce the risk of this by burning incense in a well-ventilated area.
